Two professors in the College of Arts and Humanities were named “Professor of the Game” during Fresno State football games during the 2017 season — Dr. Kathy Adams and Dr. Tina Fernandes Botts.
Fresno State’s commemoration of Human Rights Day at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, will feature Dolores Huerta, president of the Dolores Huerta Foundation, and Amanda Renteria, chief of operations for the California Department of Justice. The free, public event will be held at the North Gym (Room 118) with Huerta delivering a special message and Renteria delivering the keynote address.
Philosophy professor Dr. Veena Howard, whose expertise is in South Asian religious traditions and Gandhi’s philosophy, was elected to the board of trustees for the Parliament of the World’s Religions, a leading global interfaith organization.
The Ethics Center presents Richard Rothstein, who will speak about his recent book, “The Color of Law,” from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in North Gym 118. “The Color of Law” examines how segregation in America is the byproduct of explicit government policies at the local, state, and federal levels.
Several Arts and Humanities emeriti faculty members gathered for brunch on Wednesday, Oct. 25, with CAH student ambassadors Chris Carreon and Yeng Xiong, Dean Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, Associate Dean Honora Chapman and several members of the Dean’s Office staff.
The Ethics Center will examine “Ethics, Theology, and The Reformation at 500” from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, in North Gym 118. A diverse panel will discuss this 500-year legacy.

“Voice and Silence: Women in Opera and Philosophy” is a lecture-recital scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the Fresno State Concert Hall. In this collaboration between the Department of Music and the Department of Philosophy, soprano Dr. Maria Briggs and philosopher Dr. Tina Botts will explore the role of women in operatic dramas and philosophy.

The Leon S. Peters Ethics Lecture Series begins its fall semester line-up with “Constitution Day: A Dialogue for Democracy” from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 16, in North Gym 118. Topics will be free speech, American values, civility and opportunities for civic action.
