The Fresno State Music Department will present the sixth annual Violin and Viola Festival, an intensive weekend of master classes and performances for violinists and violists with three or more years of experience. Dr. Limor Toren-Immerman is the music director for the festival.
Fresno audiences will have two opportunities to hear music by Department of Music composition Professor Dr. Kenneth Froelich this month. The Fresno Philharmonic, conducted by new music director Rei Hotoda, will perform “Spinning Yarns,” the second movement of Froelich’s Symphony No. 1, during their 3 p.m. concert on Sunday, Jan. 28, at the William Saroyan Theatre.
Coro Piccolo, the chamber choir of Fresno Community Chorus, will present an intimate performance of Gerald Finzi’s “In Terra Pax” and other Christmas choral works at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10, at St. Anne’s Chapel at San Joaquin Memorial High School (1406 N. Fresno St.). The tender “Shepherd’s Farwell” by Hector Berlioz is also on the program for the concert, which will be directed by Anna Hamre, artistic director for the Fresno Community Chorus.
The Fresno Community Chorus Master Chorale and Coro Piccolo, directed by Fresno State professor emeritus Dr. Anna Hamre, will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Mass in B Minor” at its spring concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in the Paul Shaghoian Concert Hall at Clovis North High School. The Department of Music presents Fresno State piano majors in concert for their annual spring recital at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in the Wahlberg Recital Hall.
