Lilia Gonzales-Chavez will receive an honorary doctor of fine arts and will be recognized during the commencement ceremony for the College of Arts and Humanities, scheduled from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, at the Save Mart Center.
The tiny figurine from Late Iron Age Scandinavia is called the “Valkyrie from Hårby.” It was found in 2012 by an amateur archeologist. The piece was shaped in silver and gilded with a thin layer of gold.
With the help of a $205,000 grant from The McClatchy Fresno Arts Endowment of The James B.
