The Fresno State Women’s Studies Program is celebrating National Women’s History Month with a lecture series that includes two Arts and Humanities professors.

Dr. Nancy Van Leuven, Media, Communications and Journalism, on Tuesday, March 6, and Dr. María Dolores Morillo, Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures, on Thursday, March 22. Each lecture will be located in the Henry Madden Library Room 3212 from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Film: ‘My Führer: The Really Truest Truth About Adolf Hitler’

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures and the German Club will screen Germany’s first comedy about Hitler, “My Führer: The Really Truest Truth About Adolf Hitler.” Directed by Dani Levy, “My Führer” pays homage to Chaplin’s “The Great Dictator” by satirizing the cult of personality around Hitler. The film, released in 2007, was Germany’s first comedic attempt at dealing with the National Socialist past and aids in understanding not only Germany’s history, but also its current political climate.

Hispanic Heritage Month: Rebozo Fest revives Sept. 25-29

The Rebozo Revival Festival, “El Renacimiento del Rebozo,” returns to Fresno for a week-long celebration with the opening ceremony and art exhibition 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 25, at Fres.co (1918 Fresno Street).

The festival, which is part of Fresno State’s Hispanic Heritage Month observance, is presented by the University and Lourdes Sevilla (founder and creator of the festival) in collaboration with several community partners for the Center for Creativity and the Arts 2017-18 lineup.

‘Don Giovanni’ lecture-recital brings together musical artists and humanists

Spanish and voice students took their learning outside of the traditional classroom and into Fresno State’s Concert Hall on Friday, for a cross-disciplinary lecture-recital that examined Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.”

This collaborative effort between the Department of Music and the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures combined operatic singing, lecture and a question-and-answer segment in a 50-minute class performance.

A rebozo is a long woven cloth garment from Mexico and Central America traditionally worn as a shawl, head covering, belt, baby sling or backpack. Rebozos are worn today for fashion and function throughout the Americas.
