The College of Arts and Humanities provides a diverse student population with the communication skills, humanistic values and cultural awareness that form the foundation of scholarship. The Armenian Studies Program announced its latest book, “The Committee of Union and Progress: Founders, Ideology, and Structure,” Volume 13 in the Armenian Series of The Press at California State University, Fresno. A special virtual event to present and discuss the book will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 on Zoom.
The Sigma Nu Fraternity announced that recent Fresno State alumnus Robert Ortega, Jr. received their “Alpha Alumni Chapter Affiliate Award” for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Dr. Suren Manukyan will give a publice lectur on “Architects of the Armenian Genocide: The Top-Level Perpetrators” at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 on Zoom. The presentation is part of the Fall 2021 Lecture Series of the Armenian Studies Program.
Dr. Manukyan is the author of some thirty articles in the field of genocide and oriental studies. In his research interests, Dr. Manukyan explores the history of genocide, which explains the origins of social behaviors that lead up to mass murder, including prejudices, stereotypes, racism, religious and ethnic hatred, and discrimination.
Presented in collaboration with The California Arts Project (TCAP), the panel will explore the recent crimes and violence against Asian Americans and communities, the visual representations of Asian/Asian Americans in popular culture and interventions and strategies to address those issues in art education.

The California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees has appointed Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval, Ph.D., to serve as the ninth president of California State University, Fresno. Jiménez-Sandoval currently serves as interim president of Fresno State.

Prof. Der Mugrdechian began teaching at Fresno State in 1985. Since 2008 he has been the Berberian Coordinator of the Armenian Studies Program and Director of the Center for Armenian Studies at Fresno State.
Interim President Dr. Jiménez-Sandoval announced Dr. Veena Howard, associate professor of religious studies in the Department of Philosophy, as the first Endowed Chair in Jain and Hindu Dharma at Fresno State.
The Armenian Studies Program held its 33rd Annual Banquet on Sunday, May 2. The Banquet was held virtually and a special video to mark the occasion was prepared.

Fresno State’s locally grown, nationally known literary magazine, The Normal School, ended its print-edition era by earning high marks for gender parity for the sixth year in a row in a nationwide report. The magazine also had an essay published and two essays mentioned in the newest editions of the annual Best American series.
