The translation project was led by Dr. Kristi Eastin from MCLL, who gathered current students and recent alumni of Latin and German during the spring semester to create close and useful translations of the medieval writings.
“The goal is to enhance STEM education here at Fresno State, to include in scientific databases local, native knowledge of plants including their geographic distribution, their uses and the vocabulary associated with these plants in native languages,” said Dr. Brian Agbayani. “…it’s important for us to be both supporters and stewards in the region.”

After meeting at the new faculty orientation in the fall of 2016, Holly Sowles, an interior design professor in the Department of Art and Design, and Dr. Katy Tarrant, a professor in the Animal Science and Agricultural Education Department, accepted a challenge to work with others outside of their own colleges.
In the two years since then, Sowles, Tarrant and students in both of their departments have worked toward creating an environmental enrichment that expands the diversity of welfare enhancements for chickens raised in the agricultural science program. In the process, they have created a richer environment for students in both areas of study.
The Fresno State Blended Arts Festival, a collaborative arts event, will feature a free guest speaker series from 2-4 p.m. followed by an evening concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, located at the Fresno State Concert Hall.

The Rebozo Revival Festival, “El Renacimiento del Rebozo,” returns to Fresno for a week-long celebration with the opening ceremony and art exhibition 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 25, at Fres.co (1918 Fresno Street).
The festival, which is part of Fresno State’s Hispanic Heritage Month observance, is presented by the University and Lourdes Sevilla (founder and creator of the festival) in collaboration with several community partners for the Center for Creativity and the Arts 2017-18 lineup.
Spanish and voice students took their learning outside of the traditional classroom and into Fresno State’s Concert Hall on Friday, for a cross-disciplinary lecture-recital that examined Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.”

There will be a reception from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 22, immediately preceding the first night’s session. The conference will feature eight scholars from through the United States and Turkey.
The Leon S. Peters Ethics Lecture Series begins its fall semester line-up with “Constitution Day: A Dialogue for Democracy” from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 16, in North Gym 118. Topics will be free speech, American values, civility and opportunities for civic action.
The rebozo festival is returning to Fresno in September as the Rebozo Revival Festival. A rebozo is a long woven cloth garment from Mexico and Central America traditionally worn as a shawl, head covering, belt, baby sling or backpack. Rebozos are worn today for fashion and function throughout the Americas.
