A radio documentary about a recent Central Valley Honor Flight (facebook.com/CentralValleyHonorFlight/) trip to Washington, D.C., won second place in the Broadcast Education Association (beaweb.org/wp/) faculty audio competition. Faith Sidlow, an assistant professor with Fresno State’s Mass Communication and Journalism Department (fresnostate.edu/artshum/mcj/), traveled to Washington, D.C., with 65 World War II and Korean War veterans from the Central Valley earlier this summer and produced a documentary to tell their story and help raise funds (cvhonorflight.org/donate.html) for future honor flights.
Sidlow and professor Candace Egan will attend the Super-Regional Conference Oct. 13 to 15 at the University of South Carolina and will accept the award during the conference. The radio documentary (kfsr.org/news/kfsr-presents-central-valley-honor-flight-documentary/) was presented by KFSR.
In September, two MCJ students will make a similar trip with the Honor Flight to produce a video story. Their story will be part of a 30-minute special report on the Valley’s veterans. It will air Nov. 9 on the MCJ department’s student newscast, Fresno State Focus (facebook.com/FresnoStateFocusTV), on Comcast Cable Channel 94, AT&T U-verse Channel 99 and CMAC.TV.
