Bianca Palma is an undergraduate student receiving her B.A. in communication and minoring in media, communications and journalism and English literature. She is the undergraduate Student of Distinction from the Department of Communication.
“Bianca is a prime example of the versatility, creativity and ingenuity of the students from our College, with interests and expertise spanning literature, media analysis and production and textual hermeneutics,” said Dr. Hillary Jones, associate professor of rhetoric and new media. “She’s stellar. I cannot recommend her highly enough.”
As the daughter of a Fresno State alumni, Palma has held a deep connection to the university from a young age. In the College of Arts and Humanities Honors program, she pursued her passion project, an exploration website for Fresnans inspired by her upbringing in the city.
Palma was also a student event coordinator and marketing manager for Spotlight Events, where she directed a campaign for Noche De Baile, an event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
“The noteworthy success of her coordination and promotion of the Nocha de Baile event and her honors project, producing a website specifically geared to supporting the community in Fresno, further cement her strength in this area,” said Dr. Jones who added that Palma had over 25-thousand hits on the website.
On campus, Palma has been involved with many events fostering the Fresno State community, including serving as a Dog Days orientation leader, volunteering at Vintage Days and Peach Blossom Festival and participating on the Homecoming Committee.
“My journey at Fresno State has not only equipped me with valuable skills but also instilled a core value of service. Through my future endeavors, I aspire to give back, share knowledge, offer new perspectives, and perpetually pursue learning—an enduring legacy of guidance, knowledge and magical experiences I have gained at Fresno State,” Palma said.
I love so much about this article: the person, the accolades, the accomplishments…this year celebrates my 50th graduation date from Fresno State. I had a good education; I only wish there had been so many of these opportunities “back in ’70s.” It makes me happy to see young people taking advantage of all that the university offers.
