The 14th annual Undergraduate Conference on Multiethnic Literatures of the Americas (UCMLA) will take place March 3-4, featuring keynote addresses from authors and scholars Shadab Zeest Hashmi and Dr. LeiLani Nishime.
Hashmi writes both poetry and prose. Her most recent books are the hybrid memoir “Comb,” published in 2020 by Sable Books and the volume of poetry and literary criticism “Ghazal Cosmopolitan: The Culture and Craft of the Ghazal,” published in 2017 by Jacar Press. Her keynote address is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, March 3, on Zoom. Pre-registration is required.
Nishime is a professor of communication at the University of Washington and an organizer with the Seattle Asian American Film Festival. Her nonfiction book is “Undercover Asian: Multiracial Asian Americans in Visual Culture,” published in 2013 by the University of Illinois Press. Her keynote address is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, March 3, on Zoom. Pre-registration is required.
The UCMLA conference will also include three panels featuring student presenters, plus opening remarks from the university’s new diversity officer, Dr. Rashanda Booker. All sessions are free and open to the public.
