M.K. Gandhi Center hosts a screening of ‘Kasturba Gandhi: Accidental Activist’ film

Kastuba Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi called her his “precious jewel” of inspiration, and although she lived alongside him, she remained in his shadow until now. The documentary film “Kasturba Gandhi: Accidental Activist” reveals the journey of Kastuba Gandhi and introduces the wife and equal partner of Mahatma Gandhi to the world. This is the first feature film made about Kasturba Gandhi, whom Gandhi called his “guru” and “teacher of nonviolence.” This film documents her life of inspiration through Gandhi experts, Gandhi’s relatives and archival photos and film.

A free screening will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 16, at the Peters Educational Center. Fresno State President Saúl Jiménez-Sandoval will deliver the opening remarks. There will be a reception at 5:15 p.m. in the lobby of Peters Educational Center, and a question-and-answer session with director and producer Cynthia Lukas and Dr. Veena Howard, professor of philosophy and Gandhi scholar, will take place following the screening. Parking is free with code 269408.
