Fresno State’s University Dance Theatre (UDT) will present “We Are,” a student-produced and choreographed dance concert under the artistic direction of Alyssa Garvin.
Performances are 8 p.m. April 28-30 and 2 p.m. April 30 at the Lab School 101 Theatre. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online ahead of the event or at the door (cash only).
“We Are” contains numerous dances created by the Fresno State students. The dances range from contemporary, modern, lyrical, and hip hop. From the dancers performing to the choreography and the production aspects of the concert, everything is student-generated with the assistance of Alyssa Garvin, professor of Dance at Fresno State and instructor of UDT.
Every semester University Dance Theatre brings new and different ideas about what dance is and how it relates to the world around us.
“University Dance Theatre is a course that engages a high level of collaboration, dialogue and discovery,” says Kenneth Balint. “Year after year, the group continues to bring a rich dance tradition of creativity and community to California State University, Fresno. By attending the performances, audience members support dancers attending Fresno State as well as the performing arts community in Fresno. With the support of the community, dancers are motivated to pursue the art of dance and continue training.”
Proof of complete COVID vaccination or a negative result from a COVID test performed within 72 hours of the performance day is required to be admitted. Masks are not required but strongly encouraged. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain. Latecomers will not be permitted, and there are no refunds or exchanges. The box office is open from noon to 4 p.m. on weekdays and one hour before each performance, and it accepts cash, check, or credit card payments.
Parking is free for shows on Friday and Saturday. For the Thursday night show, parking permits are required and can be purchased at dispensers in parking lots on campus.
