“Christopher Rodriguez made a lovely gift for his mom on Mother’s Day,” said Dr. Maria Briggs – Okunev, assistant professor of voice. “He advanced to a second round of the National Classical Singer Competition.”

Rodriguez, a graduate vocal performance student, will now move to the second of three rounds and has the opportunity to participate in the national Classical Singer Convention. At the convention, he will have free access to masterclasses and webinars taught by university faculty and industry professionals from around the world.

This year, due to COVID-19, the National Classical Singer Competition and the convention is entirely online. Classical Singer Magazine, who operates the conference and competition, began in 1988 as The New York Opera Newsletter. The newsletter was later transformed into Classical Singer magazine.
