Fresno State alumnus, poet, and English teacher Sam Pereira will read selections from his lifetime of material and share insights during his lecture “Creating a Third Country: The Combining of American and Portuguese Cultures into Nuanced Poetry” at 6 p.m., Dec. 5 in the University Business Center, PB 191.
Pereira has published six books including “Dusting on Sunday” (Tebot Bach, 2012), “The Marriage of the Portuguese—Expanded Edition” (Tagus Press, University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, 2012), and “Bad Angels” (Nine Mile Press, 2015).
Pereira has published in many of the best-known poetry magazines in the country, among them: American Poetry Review, Antioch Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Blackbird, Connotation Press, Five Points, Great River Review, and Poetry magazine.
The free public lecture is hosted by the Portugues Beyond Borders Institute and sponsored by the Luso-American Development Foundation. Parking is $5 in Lot 6.
