Happy 90th Birthday to the Media, Communications and Journalism Dept., let’s have some ice cream!

The Media, Communications and Journalism Department at Fresno State is hosting an ice cream social to celebrate its 90th birthday at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25 in the Satellite Student Union and Speech Arts 172. Tickets are $25.

The evening will begin with optional tours of The Collegian, KFSR 90.7 FM, and the department’s TV and video production studio. Alumni, students, and friends are invited to see what the department is planning for each of its five options: Advertising, Broadcast Journalism, Multimedia, Print Journalism, and Public Relations.

The first journalism courses were taught at Fresno State in 1928 and during its 90-year history the department has restructured and updated to reflect current trends in the fields — including the invention of television and the internet. The birthday celebration will honor the department’s past while also highlighting its plans for the future.

For more information, call the department office at 559.278.2087 or email Prof. Betsy Hays, MCJ Department Chair, at bhays@csufresno.edu.
