Debasis Chakroborty will perform a concert of classical Hindustani music at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, in the Concert Hall at Fresno State.

Chakroborty performs using a modified Hawaiian slide guitar. He will be accompanied on the tabla (a South Asian membranophone percussion instrument) by Shashanka Bakshi, a senior student of Samta Prasad of Banaras Gharana.

Chakroborty is an associate professor of music at the Institute of Visual, Performing Arts and Research, Mangalayatan University, Aligarh, U.P., India. He performs regularly in various regional and national TV and radio stations in India. Internationally he has performed in Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and China.

This event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities and Continuing and Global Education.
