Students in the Fresno State Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra will perform with trombone legend Andy Martin at their final concert of the year at 8 p.m. tonight (May 2) in the Concert Hall. They will be playing music by Kubis, Brookmeyer and Sturm.

This past weekend the Fresno State Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and Jazztet had very successful performances at the Reno Jazz Festival, the largest educational jazz festival in the United States.

“I am very excited to announce that the Jazz Orchestra was awarded third place in the 4 year college division placing us among some of the finest collegiate jazz programs,” said music Professor Alan Durst, director of Jazz Orchestra/Ensembles/Combos. “Additionally, Andrew Watkins received the Outstanding College Performer award.  This award is quite an honor as it is only given to one trombonist in the 4-year college division.”

Below is a list of students who were given recognition awards for their outstanding musicianship:

  • Paris Evans, Jazz Ensemble
  • Angelo Laberinto, Jazz Orchestra
  • Bryce Lopez, Jazz Orchestra
