Chamber Choir part of Veterans Day Service

The Fresno State Chamber Singers, led by Director of Choral Activities Dr. Cari Earnhart, took part in Veterans Memorial Service on campus on Thursday, Nov. 10.

The 23-members of the mixed choir, dressed in red, white and blue attire rather than their usual more formal outfits, performed three numbers during the ceremonies.

Overcoming some technical difficulties, the performance became spontaneously a capella. The first number was “Salute to the Armed Forces,” which pays tribute to all branches of the service.

Following a speaking portion of the program, the Chamber Singers sang “In Flanders Fields,” based on the World War I poem of the same name, which references the red poppies that grew on soldiers’ graves.

Singers concluded the Veterans Memorial Service with the Irving Berlin song “God Bless America.”

The Fresno State campus is closed Nov. 11, the national holiday honoring veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.
