In this episode of Artful Discourse by FSR Underground, Salvador Solorio-Ruiz talks about his experience as a first-generation college student, his work as a Delano city council member, and how his education, communication degree and upbringing as the son of a farmworker and child care provider from Mexico inform his approach to politics.
Delano City Council Member Salvador Solorio-Ruiz attended Fresno State and received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. After graduating, he returned to his hometown of Delano because he felt an obligation to help build up the community that raised him in Kern County. He was elected less than two years after graduating and is now one of the youngest council members in Delano.
Solorio-Ruiz hopes to inspire others to get civically engaged and do his part in creating a prosperous life for Central Valley families. In addition to being a council member for the City of Delano, Solorio-Ruiz is a Project Coordinator with the California Health Collaborative, a non-profit funded by the California Department of Public Health, where he educates communities on tobacco prevention.
He also serves on the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and the Kern Council of Governments.
