The main event, presented by 90.7 KFSR, is the Jazz Festival Concert featuring The Dan Rosenboom Quintet and the Fresno State Jazz Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 20, in the Fresno State Concert Hall.

Artful Discourse – Aired Nov. 25, 2023 – Richard Giddens and the Fresno State Jazz Festival

Mark Swed with the L.A. Times called Dan Rosenboom “a phenomenon,” and Josef [Joseph] Woodard with Downbeat Magazine said he is a “Trumpet dynamo” and “one of the more interesting Los Angeleno players.” He will be joined by Gavin Templeton on the saxophone, John Escreet on the piano, Billy Mohler on the bass, and Damion Reid on the drums.

“It’s a pretty serious quintet that’s coming,” said Richard Giddens, director of Jazz Studies. “Dan arranged two pieces from his album ‘Polarity’ for the Fresno State big band, so we’ll get to world premiere two pieces that have never been heard before.”

Tickets are just $20 for general admission, $10 for active military, veterans, seniors and Fresno State employees, $5 for non-Fresno State students and free for Fresno State students.
