Stacy Batrich-Smith and her daughter Cassidy Smith (pictured above) have deep ties to Fresno State. Both are Arts and Humanities alums — Stacy graduated from the then-Radio and Television option in 1976; Cassidy was a Smittcamp scholar and a dean’s medalist from the Department of Media, Communications and Journalism in 2011. And both participated in Peach Blossom, the annual oral interpretation festival hosted by the Department of Communication.
Valley media giants Joe Rosato Sr. and Jim Tucker were honored alongside MCJ fellows and several scholarship recipients during the MCJ Hall of Fame and Scholarship Reception.
A refreshed version of the William Shakespeare classic, “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” will run Dec. 1 – 9 at the John Wright Theatre at Fresno State. The production receives an original and accessible concept by director Brad Myers, and is the third show of University Theatre’s 2017-18 season.
More than 200 packs of crayons and 150 coloring books were delivered to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera (9300 Valley Children’s Place) on Nov. 17 as part of a recent class project and crayon drive by Fresno State students in a Media, Communications and Journalism publication design course.
The Hmong program and the Hmong Language Club will host a screening of the PBS documentary “The Hmong and The Secret War” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, in McLane 161. The screening will be followed by a discussion with filmmaker Lar Yang.
Fresno State Barking Bulldog debaters Primavera Leal Martinez and Hunter Sansom placed third in the Robert Barbera Debate Tournament at California State University Northridge, Nov. 10-12, their final tournament of the fall semester.

The Fresno Community Chorus Master Chorale, directed by Fresno State professor emeritus Dr. Anna Hamre, will perform “Remembrance and Healing: Executive Order 9066 and the incarceration of ethnic Japanese in America.” The fall concert will take place at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, in the Paul Shaghoian Concert Hall.
